Do you know a good retreat centre?

I’m always on the look-out for good places to hold writing holidays.

My preferred locations are – a) close to Trieste in northern Italy, b) elsewhere in Italy, c) the UK, d) possibly France…If you know of a house you think might be suitable, let me know!

Here’s my wish list for the perfect retreat house:-

i) great atmosphere

ii) quiet, rural location

iii) accommodation for at least 10, possibly up to 20 people (preferably in twin or single rooms)

iv) dining on site or very nearby

v) great price to quality ratio

vi) workshop space/ teaching room with chairs and tables for writing on

vii) tables for writing on throughout accommodation (especially in the bedrooms)

viii) relatively easy access to airport/ station, etc (and preferably cheap and regular flights)

Great but not essential:

• wifi access
• separate accommodation for tutor (at least a single room)
• great views
• possibility of physical activity space (indoors or outdoors, depending on season)- yoga, swimming pool, tennis courts, walking tracks, etc.
