Course Descriptions
Back To English (Level 1)
This course is aimed at students who once upon a time (probably a very long time ago!)
studied English at school and are now feeling ‘rusty’. In particular, students will practise
their conversation skills, as well as refreshing some basic grammar and vocabulary.
Wednesdays 9.30 to 10.45 Starts 22nd September till 1st December (break 3rd Nov)
10 weeks
More English (Level 2)
This course is aimed at students who have a good grasp of the basic grammar and
vocabulary but want to further improve their conversation skills and pronunciation.
Fridays 9.30 to 10.45 Starts 22nd September till 1st December (break 3rd Nov) 10 weeks
WORDPLAY: Creative Courses in English
** courses marked** are in association with
Tekne and will take place in a special and
beautiful space in Opicina…
Literary Trieste / Advanced conversation (Level 3+)
This course is for both mother tongue and advanced level English speakers who would
like to study and discuss texts written in or about Trieste, including Jan Morris’s Trieste:
The Meaning of Nowhere and James Joyce’s Ulysses. We will also consider Rilke, Svevo
and Saba in translation.
Wednesdays 11-12.30 20th October till 10th December (no session 5th Nov)
Creative Writing ** (Level 3+)
This course is for both mother tongue and advanced level English speakers who want to
develop their writing skills using techniques from creative writing. This is a superb way
to expand your vocabulary and descriptive techniques as well as freeing you up to write
imaginatively.
Fridays. 18.15-19.45** 22nd October till 10th December (no session 5th
Nov)
Academic English and Seminar Presentation skills
Currently a closed course for SISSA students.
Children’s Theatre **
This is a brand new course for children (currently there is a group of 8-9 year olds, but if
there are more requests, then there will be more classes!).
Building on my experience teaching script writing to children in London with Theatre
Studio West, I will be using drama and script writing techniques as a FUN and extremely
EFFECTIVE strategy for encouraging children to speak, write and listen IN ENGLISH.
Tuesdays, 5.00 – 6.00 (starts 4th Oct, show on Dec 6th).
